“The trouble is you think you have time.” I came across this quote by Jack Kornfield recently and was inspired to share my thoughts with you in today's blog post.
We always think we have time. I’m sure you have heard of the saying "Live each day as if it were your last", or “Carpe Diem (seize the day)”. It’s something we always say, but do we actually live by it? Truth is, oftentimes we don’t. The dreams we have tend to be pushed away because “we still have time”. We constantly put things off for ‘tomorrow’, when we could simply do it today. But why is that?
Well, when we are young, we hardly think about our future. After all, we have so many years ahead of us to change our lifestyle. But as we age, time goes by faster. As we grow older, our perspective changes. Then before we know it, another year goes by without achieving the goals we set for ourselves.
Year after year, we do things that don't make us happy. We find ourselves in jobs that don't fulfill us, in relationships that don't do us any good. Often those people only rob us of energy instead of giving it to us or we stay in situations that make us feel uncomfortable. But instead of changing anything about it, we keep on waiting for “the right moment”. Maybe you want to reach that 1-year milestone at your job because it looks better on your CV. Maybe you are trying to satisfy other people’s dreams, or maybe you just don’t believe that your dreams are realistic enough and that you’d rather wait a bit longer.
But that’s exactly the problem - you need to recognize that your time is valuable. In fact, time is one of those resources that are so scarce and so finite that it’s the most precious commodity in the world. It’s a commodity that can’t be bought, sold, saved, or invested. Why waste it with things that don’t make you truly happy?
How can you use your time wisely?
So here’s the question. How can you spend your time wisely? Obviously, we can live out our days however we choose. But if you have real goals, desires, and wishes, then you shouldn’t waste that time away. You have to make the best of it and use it wisely. Why not embrace the time you have in this world and do something extraordinary? In order to change that, you have two options. Either you leave everything as-is, or you set goals for yourself and invest time and energy. By doing the latter, you’ve begun the momentum of change, and over the next few years, you’ll finally build a life that you have always dreamed of. Are you willing to invest in a few years of hard work to create a life for yourself that makes you truly happy? Or do you stay put and let the years pass you by? You decide the path you want to take.
If you are willing to put in the work, then you’re gonna have to figure out how to use your time in the best way possible. There are many tools you can use to audit your time, such as ClickUp or Clockify. They will allow you to see how you divide your time exactly. Once you understand how you spend your time, you can analyze your work trends and make smarter decisions. Stop procrastinating and tackle your fears. I know it can be scary to do something out of our comfort zone, but you know what? Life is too short to care. Go out there and do what needs to be done to conquer your fears. I assure you, it’s the one thing that will allow you to live your best life.
Cheers,
